Ancient Coins: ROMAN REPUBLICAN and IMPERATORIAL SILVER: A Postumius Albinus, c.81 B.C.
AR Serrate Denarius, 3.88g. 20mm. Bust of Diana to right with bow and quiver over shoulder; bucranium above. Rev. A POST A F S N A BIN. Togate figure standing to left on rock and holding a sprinkler over a bull; lighted altar in center. CR 372/1. Syd. 745; area of weakness from die defect on the lower body of the togate figure. Lovely old collection toning with underlying luster. Unusually well struck and complete.
The reverse represents the sacrifice to Diana for Rome to become caput rerum.
