Ancient Coins: ROMAN REPUBLICAN and IMPERATORIAL SILVER: L. Caesius, 112-111 B.C.
AR Denarius, 3.93g. 19.5mm. Diademed bust of Apollo assimilated with Jupiter to left hurling thunderbolt; monogram(for Apollo?) in field to right. Rev. L CAESI in exergue. Rev. The Lares Praestities each holding a staff with a dog between them; small figure of Vulcan with tongs above; monograms for LA and PRE in fields. CR 298/1. Syd. 564. RBW 1140. Some marks on the obverse and a minute scrape by the ear, but unusually sharp for this type particularly on the reverse. Attractive cabinet toning and with an old collector ticket marked December 4, 1911.
