AR Drachm, 3.92g. 20mm.  c.125-115 B.C. magistrate: Apollophanes.   Laureate head of Apollo to right with hair in long plaits.  Rev.  Homer seated to right wearing himation with hand raised to chin; he holds scroll and scepter.  BMC 7var(magistrate).  Milne, "Silver Coins of Smyrna", in Numismatic Chronicle 1914, p. 278, 7a.2.  Milne, "The autonomous coinage of Smyrna," in Numismatic Chronicle, 1927, no. 201.  Light scratch on Apollo's cheek.  Toned and an extremely rare type in silver.  Smyrna is one of several cities that claimed to be the birthplace of Homer.
