Mettius.  IMPER CAESAR.  Wreathed head of Caesar to right.  Rev.  M METTIVS.  Venus standing to left holding Victory and scepter; she rests elbow on shield;  D in field to left.  CR 480/17. Sear, Imperators 101. Sydenham 1055.  Alfoldi Type XVI/A11/R/29; unlisted die combination.  Attractive old toning and bold obverse legend.

Crispina, wife of Commodus, 178-192 A.D.

AR Denarius, 2.71g.  18mm.  CRISPINA AVGVSTA.  Draped bust of Crispina to right with hair arranged in waves and knotted in a chignon at back of head. Rev. VENVS.   Venus standing to left holding apple. RIC 399,286.   Lovely dark toning and an exceptionally sharp portrait.
